Any science or technology magazine has enough articles to keep a science fiction writer overflowing with ideas for weeks or months.

Just to see what I would come up with, I went to my shelf of "Current Magazines to Read Before They Stop Being Current" at home and picked one at random: Discover.  I opened it at random and saw on the right page an ad for the Discovery Book Club.  One book caught my eye - "Blink."  It was subtitled "The Power of Thinking Without Thinking."  Okay - how about this: Homeland Security decides to fight terrorism by monitoring every thought of every person. So, what would happen if someone could "think without thinking"?  As they say, "In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king."  Seems like there ought to be a story here.

But getting the idea is the easy part.
