More Landscaping - 2
I purchased more 2-inch spruce trees from Architrees' eBay store and planted most of them here and there around the edges of the highlands.
At
Janet's suggestion, I decided to place a cemetery on the western highlands,
so I bought the photo-etched brass gravestones and mausoleum made by Shire
Scenes from Z Scale Monster Trains. The brass piece shown at the right is about 1 5/8 inches
wide. I created a small hill with Foam Putty wet with Scenic Cement as I described previously. I surrounded the cemetery with Micro Structures Victorian Fence (also from Z Scale Monster Trains) and then covered the area with snow. I set the painted gravestones into place and planted a couple of small pine trees.
The flag was made
with PhotoShop from a picture that I took at The Painted Desert Visitor Center.
I created a second image, flipped it horizontally, and inserted it into the
original image so that, after resizing to 0.3 inches high and printing, the
picture could be folded so that there was image on both sides. This was placed
on the hill on a flagpole made by clipping a section from a jumbo paper clip. Since this is a winter layout, snowmen seemed appropriate. I cut off small pieces of rope calk weatherstrip and rolled them into successively smaller balls for each snowman. I set the "snowballs" on top of each other and placed them onto a straight pin held by a pair of locking tweezers. Each snowman was painted with white enamel. Then I added eyes etc. with black enamel paint on the tip of another straight pin. Each snowman shown to the right is about 3/8-inch tall. One was placed in front of the farmhouse. The other in front of the blue house in the village.
