The livestock pen/stock yard came as a single sheet of laser-cut wood and I didn't see the need to paint it. The directions for assembly were very good and I had no problems.
Although assembly was helped by the precut holes in the base, I'm not sure that I'll actually use the base when I place the stock yard onto the layout.
