Landscaping

I painted each of the Foam Putty rocks that I'd made with diluted Stone Gray from the Earth Color Kit. I then added some highlights with the Burnt Umber pigment.

The sides of the west-end high spot were painted with Stone Gray pigment, then I glued it in place with Scenic Glue and sloped the western side with some Foam Putty.

Each of the rocks was glued into place and I traced around the cake, wedge and track so that I could see what to avoid when I did more painting and put in the grass.

The ground to each side of the track inside the tunnel was painted with stone gray, then the rest of the exposed parts of the layout was painted with Green Undercoat.

After everything was dry, I coated the Green Undercoat with a layer of Scenic Glue instead of Scenic Cement because the glue is thicker and I thought it might give a bit more texture to the grass which came next.

I sprinkled a heavy coating of Fine Turf - Weeds over the wet glue, using this instead of the regular Fine Turf that I'd used on the Circus Layout in hopes of giving a better and thicker grassy texture.

The thicker glue didn't make much difference where holding the turf was concerned.  So I sprayed with Scenic Cement.  I had a bit of trouble here.

The Scenic Sprayer that I got from Woodland Scenics for this purpose gave a lot of rather large droplets when I used it, even when adjusted to its finest spray setting.  I tried a plant mister sprayer from WalMart and had the same problem, even though it seemed to to provide a fine mist when just filled with water.

The major consequence of using the sprayers was that the turf was roughed up a lot, which probably really doesn't matter.  And it came out a bit darker green after the glue dried.

So I went on to putting down the Z scale roadbed.
